Ophthalmology

Ophthalmology is a branch of medicine (from the Greek ophthalmos, meaning eye) that studies the anatomy and physiology of the visual system (the eye, visual pathways, and their representation in the brain) and treats its diseases. Ophthalmology literally means “the science of the eyes.” Ophthalmologist is the professional qualification of eye physicians who study, identify, treat, and prevent diseases of the visual system and local manifestations in the eyes of other general diseases. Ophthalmology is one of the oldest medical disciplines. Ophthalmology is highly dependent on medical equipment. Modern ophthalmic examinations require extensive and expensive technical equipment.
