Diagnostic imaging is a medical specialty that uses imaging technologies to find and identify various abnormalities (pathologies) in the human body. Diagnostic imaging physicians use various types of equipment: ultrasound systems, MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) scanners, X-ray equipment, and other modern technology for diagnosing the human body. Diagnostic imaging physicians who examine the breasts are also commonly called mammologists, from the Latin mamma, meaning mammary gland.
